To Access MacInsanity you will need to have a modem, a telephone line, a modem cable, and of course a computer!
With this distribution Information File, there will be a copy of a pre-configured Terminal Package called ZTerm, ZTerm is currently the best Shareware Communications Package available on the Macintosh at the current time.
To Login, all you must do is turn on your modem and computer, make sure that your modem is configured correctly and then open up ZTerm.
As you should know what the highest speed on your modem is, go to the Dial menu, and select one of the following that will conform to your setup, the Abbreviations are as follows:
MacInsanity XXXX
The XXXX denotes your highest speed baud rate, then select one of the available configurations with the following in mind:
Vic - Use this if you are in the 03 Telephone Area Code
STD - Use this if you not in the 03 Telephone Area Code
HH - Use this if you have a Hardware Handshaking Cable Connected
No HH - Use this if you have a 'normal' Cable Connected
Therefore if I had a Netcomm Pocket Rocket 2400 and I lived in
Sydney, I would select 'MacInsanity 2400 STD'
If your highest modem speed is cont available, then just select the 'baud rate' on the bottom of the active window, and chnage it to your highest speed; also all the above configurations are for the modem port, if you have your modem connected to the Printer Port, then hold down shift upon opening up ZTerm, and you can change your port.
To dial the BBS manually, then make sure that the speed and the like is set up correctly, and type:
ATDP 038861230
If you are not STD to the 03 area code, then just type:
ATDP 8861230
After connection, you will prompted for your real name, type it in, and then answer the questions; all answers are kept confidential, and are kept in order to verify that the person who is calling says is actually who he says he is!
Access to the BBS is free, there are no online time charges and the like.
Once Users are verfied, the daily time limit is 50 minutes per day, and a user can download up to 500 kilobyter per day. If this is not enough then a user can make a donation towards the running costs of the BBS; this will earn extra time and kilobytes.
Users are expected to maintain an upload/download ratio of 1:5; this means that you are requested to send one kilobye of file to the BBS for every 5 kilobytes that you download.
Alternatively, if you do not wish to make a contribution towards the BBS in the way of files, then you can make a donation towards the running costs of the BBS.
